2025 - 05

Plan

  1. Repository Migration: Migrate from GitLab to GitHub with rebuilt CI/CD pipelines for AWS deployment.

  2. ML Infrastructure: Implement model versioning, prediction monitoring, and collaborative development environment.

  3. Strategy Monitoring: Finalize metrics, dashboards and risk threshold alerts with validated data accuracy.

  4. Paper Trading: Launch arbitrage, market-making, and ML-integrated strategies with performance monitoring.

  5. Team Development: Onboard 1 full-time quantitative researcher and 1 contractor for trading engine.

Progress

  1. Repository Migration: Done
  2. ML Infrastructure: 75% Done, pending monitoring and repo merging
  3. Strategy Monitoring: Not Started
  4. Paper Trading: Not Started
  5. Team Development: Onboarded 1 full-time researcher Vicky. Not started for hiring trading engine contractor.

Learning

Repository Migration Success

GitLab to GitHub migration was better than expected. We rebuilt CI/CD pipelines from scratch, which made them cleaner and easier to maintain. GitHub has better CI/CD, AWS integration, developer tools, and project management than GitLab.

ML Infrastructure Development Challenges

Getting to 75% completion showed the big gap between research code and production systems. Model versioning needs more planning than we thought. The "repo merging" task shows how hard it is to keep separate development environments while making them work together.

Team Onboarding Efficiency

Bringing on Vicky as a full-time researcher was much easier than the trial process in April. After finishing the long recruitment process in April, we now have clear expectations and faster ways to bring people on board. Waiting to hire a trading engine contractor shows we learned to hire people one at a time instead of all at once.

Resource Allocation Reality

May showed that 5 goals at once is too much for our team. We finished repository migration (100%) and advanced ML infrastructure (75%) but made zero progress on strategy monitoring and paper trading. We need to focus on one thing at a time with our current team size.
